J.R. Trippe Chiefs Golf Teams Repeat as Region Champions
The J.R. Trippe Chiefs golf teams travelled to Green Acres Golf Club in Dexter, Georgia on Monday, May 9th to compete in region competition. The Lady Chiefs began the day by posting a team score of 105 to win region for the third year in a row. Bleckley County came in second with a team score of 114. The Lady Chiefs were led by Layne Marie Carter who shot a 51 for nine holes and was the low medalist for the ladies tournament. Jesse Dalton, Maddy Strickland and Anslie Mead turned in scores of 54, 54 and 55 respectively. "The girls played consistent, steady golf today on a very tight course," said Coach Bobby Stanley.
The J.R. Trippe Chief boys posted a team score of 347 to defeat Bleckley County by 10 strokes. The boys were lead by 7th grader Bryson Davis who shot a 77 and was the low medalist for the men's tournament. The other golfers contributing to the team score were Chase Edwards, Avery Washinger and Luke McCall. "Region is a tough tournament for these young men. Normally, we play nine-hole matches but the region tournament is 18 holes. All of these young men did exceptionally well on a very long and hot day," said Coach Stanley. This is the second year in a row that the J.R. Trippe Chief boys have won region. "I am very proud of all of our golfers and the hard work they put into their games this year," said Coach Stanley.
